Counsellor Profile

Hello, my name is Linda Culf.  I am a professionally qualified Counsellor working as an Associate Counsellor within Rotherham Counselling Services. I hold a Diploma in Person Centred Counselling, building upon previously gained certificates of Counselling Skills and Counselling Theory.

I have worked with adult clients as a counsellor at Cruse Bereavement Care Sheffield for four years on a short/medium/long term basis dependant on their needs. I was accredited as a Cruse counsellor in October 2007.  I have also worked as a GP surgery Counsellor for over 2 years, running a weekly clinic, working with clients with a variety of issues, on a brief therapy basis.

During my career as a counsellor I have gained further knowledge of the principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and I have worked with individuals using a range of skills obtained through courses and workshops.  I continue to attend specialist workshops, seminars, and courses in order to maintain my personal and professional development.

Before I trained as a counsellor I worked in several large organisations within both Information Technology and Human Resources areas, working with and managing people for many years.  I have acquired very broad skills and many life experiences.

Within my counselling career I have covered a range of issues, including low self-esteem; depression; illness; relationship; work-related problems, low confidence; anxiety; bereavement and loneliness. I have incorporated a range of skills into my counselling practice. My approach is primarily Client Centred. Within this approach the client is considered to be the expert on themselves, and will be facilitated towards finding their own solutions. Client autonomy is an important aspect of this approach. I am able to support the principles of both CBT and Psychodynamic methods.

My counselling aim is to help to facilitate and support you as we work through purposeful yet flexible stages of exploration, understanding and action. Counselling is provided according to your needs, aiming at a pace and frequency suitable to you. The counselling process may be challenging, yet provides an enriching opportunity for you to work towards living in a more satisfactory and resourceful way. This is a voluntary professional relationship entered into after an informal discussion, with mutual agreement on issues e.g. confidentiality, cost, time-scale etc

I am a Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP), and I am bound by it’s Ethical Framework for good practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy, and subject to the Professional Conduct Procedure. My counselling work is regularly supervised, independently and externally to my private practice, along BACP guidelines.

In addition to initial telephone/email communications, an initial 15-minute consultation/assessment is provided without charge or obligation, prior to contracting. This is linked with, and immediately before, a full 1hour counselling session.
